Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a growing problem. It results from a lack of oxygen because the airway closes and the patient wakes up periodically during the night and does not sleep restfully. If serious the person is so sleepy during the day that they can be a danger to themselves and others as when driving a car.

There are several therapies available, one of which is performed by a dentist - mandibular advancement prostheses. the diagnosis of sleep apnea classically is done in a sleep laboratory although today there are services that can be done on an outpatient basis.

The diagnosis of sleep apnea must be certified prior to insurance approval.
